For many people, progesterone is a well-tolerated, widely used therapy—especially when it’s prescribed thoughtfully and monitored by a clinician. At Prescribed Essence, your safety screening is part of the care, not an afterthought.
Progesterone may not be the right fit if you:
-
Are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or actively trying to become pregnant
-
Have a history of blood clots, certain cancers (like breast or uterine), serious liver disease, or unexplained vaginal bleeding
-
Have had a prior stroke, heart attack, or significant heart disease
-
Have uncontrolled major depression or certain neurological conditions
There are also situations where your prescriber may want to be more cautious—like a strong family history of clots or hormone-sensitive cancers, endometriosis, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, migraines, kidney disease, or autoimmune conditions such as lupus.
If you use blood thinners (like warfarin), your dose may need adjustment while on progesterone, which is exactly why we ask detailed questions up front.
The upside:
Our screening process is there to keep you safe and to make sure any progesterone we use is truly appropriate for your body and your goals.
If you notice new symptoms—like yellowing of the skin or eyes, sudden vision changes, signs of a clot (leg swelling, chest pain, sudden shortness of breath), severe headache, a big jump in blood pressure, or a major change in mood—your provider may recommend pausing treatment while you’re evaluated.
Every plan is personalized. Your prescriber will review your history, medications, and goals to decide if progesterone belongs in your formula, or if a different option makes more sense for you.
